Rattan handicrafts still have a place in Banjarmasin’s market share, consumers besides local as well as foreign tourists from South Kalimantan. The price of rattan handicrafts is still not increasing. Some handicrafts made from rattan are widely marketed such as mats or rattan mats, prayer mats and dinner sets. Almost all types of craft made from rattan are in demand by consumers. An employee of Aneka Karya Shop, Tomi, said that there are only consumers of rattan handicraft products, every day there are those who sell well. But the number is uncertain.
“For a dinner set the price is Rp. 35 thousand, in the form of a tablecloth. It depends on what consumers like and there is something to buy as a souvenir of Kalimantan, “he said, Friday (6/7). He explained, the processed rattan material was mostly still imported from Central Kalimantan, then it was processed in Banjarmasin. For local consumers, it is still fond of rattan ingredients because it is good to use. “Khan is like a rattan mat if the cold day as a base does not feel cold, if the weather is hot then it will be good too,” he added. Tomi is optimistic that rattan handicraft products have survived from time to time, provided that raw materials of rattan are certainly not rare. The price of raw materials is not too high, so the price of rattan products does not go up.
